BALTIMORE – CC Sabathia’s arthritic right knee barked a little louder on Wednesday night.After the Yankees’ 7-5 win against the Orioles, Sabathia said he’s headed for treatment in New York on Friday and is likely to skip at least his next start.Friday morning the Yankees placed Sabathia on the 10-day Injured List.
“It was hurting pretty bad tonight,’’ Sabathia said after surviving five innings at Camden Yards. “But I was able to get through it and kind of keep the team in the game.’’The veteran lefty, now one victory shy of 250 for his career, described “just a shooting pain that goes through’’ his knee “every time I land. A cortisone shot, a lubricant injection and some rest “should do the trick,’’ he said, adding a likelihood of getting his knee drained of fluid.Sabathia had felt varying degrees of discomfort in recent starts leading up to Wednesday's game. Now, "it's something I need to take care of,'' Sabathia said. And the rest required to let the medicine “kind of work its magic’’ might prevent him from pitching in a four-game series against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium beginning on May 30.
